Ramadan : Eating healthy during iftar

The month of Ramadan is a great opportunity to start eating healthy. Eating moderately and properly will help you lead a healthy lifestyle. You must eat well while avoiding any oily food after iftar.

Iftar feasts can get heavy if you don’t take a good look at what you intake. Ramadan is all about the exciting gathering and the night street food. Even so, let this year be a change of habits, from unhealthy eating to leading a healthy lifestyle.

Here is what you can do to switch your Ramadan habits to something for fit and satisfying:

Keeping yourself Hydrated

Fasting can be a real hectic episode if you don’t consume the daily amount of water your body needs. The heat and the exhaustion while fasting are something that you need to keep in mind. Staying hydrated after iftar is important. When the clock strikes at sunset you can intake as much as water you wish to. But keep in mind, not to overdose and feel sick afterward. Rather than consuming a whole lot of sugary drinks, why not switch to healthy fruit juices that will keep you not only hydrated but also full and fit.

Here are some best fruit juices to consume right after iftar:

Watermelon juices can make you feel fresh while maintaining your sugar levels. Other fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, and oranges are also filled with nutrition that will keep your digestion in check. Cucumber is one of the best that you can consume, it contains high water content and it also hydrates your body. Not only does it keep you hydrated but it is also enriched with Vitamin C.

Avoid fast food and fried food

One of the most harmful things that you can do to yourself is consuming fast food right after breaking fast. Oily and fast food can affect your body in various ways. Firstly the oil that you consume right after maintaining a long fast for the day will start reacting in a negative manner inside your body, causing stress and unhealthy issues within. Many people also get gas-y and find it uncomfortable to move their bodies once they consume heavy oily food.

Rather than heading over to the street food, you can try out something healthier. It doesn’t specifically need to be a bowl of salad or fruits. You can have some soup, with carrots, bell peppers, eggplants, zucchini, spinach, and pumpkins. You add in some fresh herbs as well. Some of the best food that you can consume after iftar is complex carbohydrates such as bread, pasta, rice, harissa.

Workout

Working out two to three hours after iftar is an excellent way to cut down some extra fat and maintain a healthy body. Fasting can take a lot of energy, and your body tends to cut down some fat to produce energy during the day. When you work out during Ramadan after iftar, you will be able to cut down some pretty stubborn fat from your body and start a new routine to follow. Ramadan is all about discipline and change.

Never skip suhoor

As much as it sounds too hectic to wake up before dawn to eat a full meal, it is important that you at least consume the right amount of food to help you have a better day. You need the energy to go by your day. So why not try out some healthy yet energizing food such as dates, dry fruits, fruits, rice, milk, and protein during suhoor. Add the necessary fiber and eat moderately before fasting.
